I owned a 1960 Citroen ID-19 many years ago. Wonderful car. Front-wheel drive, air-oil suspension, and the most comfortable seats I've ever experienced.

I've always assumed that this use of "lemon" was unique to English, so am intrigued to hear that the German equivalent is used in the same way.

My very limited experience with the French automobile Citroën has been quite positive, but oddly enough, the Dutch word for "lemon" is citroen. Apparently the car was named for its originator, André Citroën, but I have no idea where his name came from.
