I, too, have puzzled over the use, and sound of, endorsation. I had not come across its usage until relocating to Canada's West Coast (okay - Vancouver) from the Prairies (okay - Edmonton). It was mentioned several times during a meeting and I nearly burst out laughing when I heard it, as the topics of discussion were by-laws and constitutional amendments. I would have challenged the use of endorsation versus endorsement but it would have come across as petty at the time. So now, because it still sounds funny to me, I just bite my tongue and chuckle internally every time I hear it or read it. And speaking about biting, I, a native Canadian, am also not fond of Tim Horton's coffee. I must be careful when I suggest other places for a caffeine fix, as there are plenty of hardcore Timmy's fans who will take their gloves off in the chain's defence (defense?). It's more of an East Coast and Central Canada thing and and seems to be popular with overseas visitors who like to pose with the coffee cups in their hands as they gather Wet Coast landmark images.
